Acrobranch Wildwoods

Supplying the Garden Route with a healthy dose of adrenalin is the High Flying Course at Acrobranch Wildwoods.

Bungy

Bloukrans Bungy

The view from Africa’s highest bridge captures all the majesty and tranquillity of the Bloukrans River valley. But there is nothing tranquil about throwing yourself more than 200 metres down towards the river below.

The Bloukrans Bungy is recognised as the world’s highest commercial bungy bridge. It is also the highest commercial natural bungy jump. Bloukrans Bungy uses pendulum bungee technology to ensure the smoothest, most comfortable bungee jump possible. Jumpers are secured in a full-body harness combined with an ankle connection.

George Golf Club

The course at the George Golf Club is a beautifully manicured 72-par, 18-hole course with bent greens, set in the heart of the Garden Route. The course rating for men is either 68 (forward – 5542m), 70 (club – 5862m) or 72 (championship – 6162m), while that for the ladies is 72 (5204m).

Visitors are welcome daily, with the exception of Wednesday and Saturday afternoons, which are reserved for Members and their guests. Booking for golf is essential. Please note that no group bookings are allowed on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Knysna Golf Club

Nestled on the shores of the Knysna Lagoon on the Garden Route and close to the Heads, the Knysna Golf Club’s 18-hole course meanders through tidal pools and magnificent indigenous trees.

The testing links / parkland layout has been enhanced over the past ten years and the course has some of the best greens in the Southern Cape. Although flat and easy to walk, the course still provides players of all levels with a good challenge and is an affordable golfing experience not to be missed while touring the area.

Mossel Bay Golf Club

The Mossel Bay Golf Club was founded in 1905 with the original golf course positioned at the old aerodrome. The land on which the present course is built was made available to the Club by the Mossel Bay Municipality in 1924. The course was designed by Bob Grimsdell and was built over a period of two years.

Plettenberg Bay Country Club

The Plettenberg Bay Country Club has an 18-hole golf course set in a private nature reserve that is a highly rated and very popular tourist destination.

The course is easy to walk and the lush Kikuyu grass fairways and bayview greens have recently been over seeded to bent grass, providing golfers with an excellent playing surface on this park-like golf course.

Despite intense competition from the beautiful white beaches and rolling surf of Plettenberg Bay, the club is busy and booking is essential. Vistors are welcome.

Fancourt

Montagu Golf Course

Originally designed by Gary Player, Fancourt’s Montagu course has developed into one of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts.

Providing a riveting golfing experience, this tree-lined course covers large tracts of varying terrain.

Outeniqua Golf Course

Fancourt’s Outeniqua presents an 18-hole course that is tailored for a laid-back golfing experience. The course provides for easier game play than the Montagu, while offering its fair share of challenges and water hazards on as many as 11 of its holes.

Designed by Gary Player and named after the mountain range that forms its breathtaking backdrop, the course is able to accommodate a large number of players.

A detailed stroke saver takes golfers through both courses, providing distance measurements and images to assist players with navigating the courses. A warm-up area, featuring a full-length range and a chipping and bunker practice area, is available to golfers before play. Golf carts are available for hire, weather permitting.

Goose Valley Golf Club

The Goose Valley Golf Club is situated in pristine surroundings just outside Plettenberg Bay, bordering on the Keurbooms Lagoon. The unique siting of the golf course on a sand dune allows for easy drainage providing the perfect base for year round play, even after heavy rains.

Oubaai Golf Resort & Spa

There are many popular farmers’ markets to visit along the Garden Route such as the Outeniqua Farmers’ Market in George, Wild Oats in Sedgefield and Harkerville Market near Plettenberg Bay.

Outeniqua Farmers’ Market

The ancient name Outeniqua means ‘the land where honey comes from’, but when the Outeniqua Farmers Market opened, Outeniqua became the land where honey, cheese, fish, chocolate, cakes, berries and other delicious foods come from.

Opposite the Garden Route Mall in George, we’re open every Saturday from 8am until 2pm and we have more than 150 food and craft stalls!

Birding

Malachite Bird Hide Wilderness

The Malachite Bird Hide is located on the northern shore of the Bo-Langvlei in the Wilderness section of the Garden Route National Park. Bo-Langvlei is one of a series of lakes connected by the Touw River (Eilandvlei, Langvlei and Rondevlei) and hosts a variety of aquatic species. It is an internationally proclaimed Ramsar site.

Major concentrations of Great Crested and Black-necked Grebe are present on Rondevlei and Bo Langvlei. Grey and Purple Heron, Little Egret, African Spoonbill, Little Bittern and Redknobbed Coot are prominent.

Featherbed Nature Reserve

Featherbed is a privately-owned, registered Nature Reserve and a South African Heritage Site. It is a pristine piece of paradise situated on the Western Head of Knysna and is accessible by ferry only.

There is a daily 4-hour excursion and reservations are essential. It is a wonderful outing for all ages and fitness levels. Good walking shoes are recommended and remember your camera, hats and sunblock in summer and a warm jacket for the ferry trip in winter.

Goukamma Nature Reserve

Goukamma Nature Reserve and Marine Protected Area, situated on the Garden Route between Sedgefield and Knysna, has a diverse array of fascinating habitats and an abundance of smaller wildlife, birds and fish.

The reserve covers 2 500 hectares of dense coastal forest, including milkwood, yellowwood and candlewood trees. It protects the charming vervet monkey, bushbuck and bushpig, as well as porcupine, mongoose, honey badger and grysbok. This is a popular choice for keen birders, as the Goukamma River and estuary and the Groenvlei Lake provide a welcoming habitat for more than 220 bird species, including the rare African black oystercatcher. There are two indigenous and four alien species of fish found in the Groenvlei Lake.

Visitors enjoy the sight of the magnificent Southern Right whales between June and November, while Bottle-nosed and Humpback dolphins play in the waves throughout the year.

Knysna Elephant Park

The Knysna Elephant Park was established in 1994 and was the first facility in South Africa to house and care for orphaned African elephants. Over the last twenty years, the park has cared for and raised more than forty elephants.

There are nine elephants in the present herd, which is the largest domesticated matriarchal herd in the country. We offer our guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with the elephants, so that they can appreciate their awe-inspiring presence.

Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre

Tenikwa is a wildlife centre located in the rural area outside Plettenberg Bay along the pristine Garden Route. Tenikwa grew from humble beginnings in 2002 and today it is one of the largest active wildlife rehabilitation centres in the Western Cape, attending to a diversity of animals, both terrestrial and marine species.

Segway Tours

The Wilderness Segway Tours operates within the Ebb and Flow National Park, which forms part of the Garden Route National Park the Wilderness section of SANParks.
Our tours offer stunning views of the local indigenous Fynbos and also of the Touws River that flows through the Park.
